We announce the implementation and handover of the Cold Chain Equipment Management System through Rapid Response & Repair Project (R3). The handover supports the Government of Tanzania via the Ministry of Health’s Immunization and Vaccine Development (IVD) program and PMO-RALG.
Nexleaf Analytics led the effort, in partnership with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and inSupply Health. The project integrated a digital CCE module into the government-owned MEIMIS to streamline management of Cold Chain Equipment.
The intervention addressed gaps in Cold Chain Equipment management. Gaps included limited visibility into inventory and functionality. Repair delays, inconsistent maintenance documentation, and weak data use hindered decisions. As a result, accountability improved, downtime reduced, and resource allocation became smarter.
The project supported the rollout of the CCE Management Module and the R3 Implementation Manual, from the national level to service delivery points, reaching 26 regions, 184 councils, and more than 9,000 health workers in Tanzania mainland. It also strengthened the use of maintenance data for monitoring, planning, and decision-making, contributing to more timely equipment maintenance and improved performance of the immunization supply chain.
The handover is an important step towards institutionalizing the system within the Ministry of Health and sustaining the gains achieved through the project. Continued implementation of the system will support the maintenance of cold chain equipment, safeguard vaccine potency, and strengthen the delivery of immunization services.
inSupply Health acknowledges the collaboration and leadership of the Ministry of Health IVD Program, the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, Nexleaf Analytics, and project consortium partners (CREMES International and Ideas for Action), whose contributions supported the project’s successful implementation and transition.
