inSupply Health is pleased to announce the launch of the Strengthening pharmacy provision of contraceptives in Kenya project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. We will be working with an exceptional team of partners — Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK), Kenya Pharmaceutical Association (KPA), University of California, San-Francisco (UCSF) and Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI).
This new project is part of an initiative that has the potential to transform family planning in Kenya by unlocking the potential of the pharmacy channel to expand access and method choice for women, while ensuring a viable business model for pharmacists. Not only can the private sector potentially free up public sector resources that can be better targeted to underserved populations, it expands access and is able to offer discreet and convenient options for Kenyan women.

This project seeks to understand the market for self-administered contraceptive, DMPA-SC, in the context of a larger basket of other contraceptive and self-care products, through the retail pharmacy. inSupply Health with its partners will design, test, and, if successful, scale up viable business models for pharmacies and chemists in Kenya to incorporate the provision of self-care products including DMPA-SC as a self-injectable into their retail business. inSupply Health will leverage the entire ecosystems of partners, including associations, innovators, women’s groups, non-governmental organizations, and online retailers to ensure sustainable and scalable approaches.
The overall project goal is to develop and test the viability and scalability of a pharmacy business model that offers customers convenient, discrete and quality counseling, training, and provision of contraceptive products.
